Susan LaBelle to be honored by UAA - July 22, 2013
The University of Alaska Anchorage Alumni Association announced that Susan LaBelle will be honored at its fourth annual Green & Gold Gala to be held September 28 in Anchorage.

Susan is being honored with the Alumni Humanitarian Award. For the past three decades she has dedicated her- self to the betterment of Alaska Natives in the areas of behavioral health, social work, substance abuse and community wellness.
Susan first graduated from UAA in 1984 with her bachelor’s degree in social work. She obtained her master’s degree in 1997. She is currently acting as Chugachmiut’s interim director for the Community and Family Services Division. She held that position full time for thirteen years before retiring to concentrate on teaching at UAA.
“I’m very honored to be recognized and given this award,” Susan said, quoted on the UAA website. “I was very surprised to learn I was selected as this year’s recipient. There are many people who are doing great things for the community and to be acknowledged as one of them is a blessing”.
Susan went on to say: “It’s important to remember that it’s not appropriate or fitting in my culture to boast about oneself or tell stories about how well we’ve done this or that.”
