Head Start Screening in Nanwalek and Port Graham - July 20, 2013
Child Find, a developmental screening for infants through preschoolers, took place in Nanwalek and Port Graham on September 17 and 18.
The screening is done by the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District in conjunction with Chugachmiut Head Start, Sprout-Infant Learning and Homer Public Health. These screenings look for concerns or delays in speech and language, basic concepts and gross and fine motor skills (movement). The “Dial 3” screening tool is used for preschool aged children.
Vision and hearing screenings are also provided along with physicals for Head Start, immunizations and any needed blood work. This annual event has been taking place for over eight years in these communities as well as in Seldovia. It meets the Federal Head Start Performance Standards and ensures that all of our young children are healthy and ready to learn.
