Tobacco Prevention and Control

The Tobacco Prevention and Control Program is designed to increase the awareness of tobacco and its effects.  Tobacco prevention educators work to:

  • Eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke,
  • Prevent the initiation of tobacco use among youth,
  • Promote quitting among adults and youth,
  • Improve cessation services by working with health care providers,
  • Support community policies that create tobacco-free environments, and,
  • Identify and eliminate tobacco-related disparities among Alaska Natives in the Chugach region.

Llangarlluni: Becoming Aware

Our vision is to revitalize the traditional Chugach Native culture and language. The goal is to make Sugpiaq/ Eyak history and heritage a part of the regular school curriculum with support and direction from our Elders’ traditional ecological knowledge (TEK).
